WFUWO Representative to the UN in Geneva Contributes to the Presentation of “Navigator 1325”

July 18, 2026

The World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO), represented by Mariana Yevsyukova, WFUWO Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, participated in the online presentation of Navigator 1325, a publication highlighting practical approaches and best practices for implementing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in Ukraine.

The event was organized by the Ukrainian Women’s Fund in partnership with the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality, with support from the Governments of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Canada. It brought together nearly 500 representatives of government institutions, international organizations, the security and defense sector, civil society, and the expert community.

Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda Through International Engagement

Speaking during the panel discussion “Best Practices Featured in Navigator 1325 and Their Practical Application,” Mariana Yevsyukova highlighted the strategic contribution of Ukrainian women abroad to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and Ukraine’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.

Her intervention focused on three interconnected priorities:

International advocacy: Amplifying Ukrainian voices internationally, raising awareness of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, promoting human rights, accountability and international justice, and countering disinformation.

Knowledge and expertise exchange: Mobilizing the professional experience and expertise of Ukrainian women worldwide to support Ukraine’s recovery and share lessons learned from Ukraine’s implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda with international partners.

Participation in Ukraine’s recovery: Recognizing Ukrainian women abroad as strategic partners in building a resilient, democratic, and inclusive Ukraine.

Mariana Yevsyukova also emphasized WFUWO’s longstanding commitment to principles that would later become central to UNSCR 1325. For more than 75 years, the Federation and its member organizations have promoted women’s leadership, international solidarity, and advocacy for Ukraine, demonstrating the important role of women in advancing peace, justice, and human rights.

From Recognition to Meaningful Participation

A central message of the WFUWO intervention was the importance of moving beyond general commitments to diaspora engagement toward concrete institutional mechanisms that enable Ukrainian women abroad to participate meaningfully in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

Mariana Yevsyukova underscored the need for stronger cooperation between Ukrainian government institutions, civil society, and Ukrainian women’s organizations worldwide. Such partnerships can help integrate the expertise, international networks, and advocacy capacities of Ukrainian women abroad into Ukraine’s national priorities and long-term recovery efforts.

This perspective is particularly relevant to international discussions in Geneva, where women’s meaningful participation, human rights, and accountability remain essential components of the broader peace and security agenda.

WFUWO Featured in “Navigator 1325”

The event also marked the presentation of Navigator 1325, a publication featuring 25 case studies illustrating practical experiences and achievements in implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda across Ukraine.

WFUWO and its member organizations are featured in the publication, with a dedicated chapter recognizing their contribution to international advocacy, the development of the global Ukrainian women’s movement, and the mobilization of Ukrainian communities worldwide in support of Ukraine’s recovery.

The presentation also introduced the national information portal 1325ukraine.org.ua, which provides access to policy documents, practical tools, local initiatives, and good practices related to the implementation of Ukraine’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.

Through its representation to the United Nations in Geneva, WFUWO continues to advocate for the meaningful inclusion of Ukrainian women’s voices and expertise in international policy discussions, reinforcing the vital connection between global advocacy, women’s leadership, and Ukraine’s recovery.
