WFUWO Calls for Accountability for Russia’s Crimes Against Ukrainian Children at the UN Human Rights Council
«We would like to address the grave violations of Ukrainian children’s rights resulting from Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Three years of war have stolen childhoods, torn families apart, and inflicted physical and psychological harm. Ukrainian children have endured abduction, forced deportation, and violence—all clear violations of international law.
As of March 10, 2025, at least 599 children have been killed, 1,788 wounded, 2,057 reported missing, and 16 sexually abused. 19,546 children have been forcibly deported to Russia and Belarus, stripped of their Ukrainian identity and subjected to forced adoptions and indoctrination. Despite international efforts, only a small fraction have been returned.
Russia’s relentless attacks on civilian infrastructure—targeting schools, hospitals, and energy facilities—have killed and maimed thousands. Child casualties increased by over 50% in 2024, and one in five Ukrainian children has lost a close relative or friend. Millions suffer from severe trauma, with calls to Ukraine’s National Child Hotline reaching 167,867 in 2024 alone.
We urge this Council to:
1. Demand the immediate return of all abducted Ukrainian children and hold Russia accountable for war crimes.
2. Support ICC arrest warrants for those responsible for crimes against children.
The forced displacement and targeting of Ukrainian children are crimes that must not be ignored. Justice must be served.»
