Kateryna Dashevska, Vice President of the Ukrainian Women in Switzerland association and member of the WFUWO’s Commission on Combating Violence, recently participated in a working meeting with Megan Gittoes, a distinguished analyst from the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The meeting focused on addressing the pressing issue of violence against women and children, particularly in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Megan Gittoes brings extensive expertise in analyzing data and evidence related to human trafficking and violence, making her a leading voice in shaping policies to protect vulnerable populations. Her work centers on providing critical insights into the lived experiences of witnesses and survivors of violence, with a particular emphasis on Ukrainian women and children who face heightened risks due to the war. Gittoes has played an instrumental role in advising policymakers in the UK Parliament, ensuring that legislative frameworks and responses are informed by evidence-based research.
During the meeting, Kateryna Dashevska highlighted the efforts of the WFUWO and the Ukrainian Women in Switzerland Association in supporting Ukrainian women and children affected by the war.
The discussion also explored opportunities to strengthen cross-border cooperation in identifying and preventing human trafficking. Particular emphasis was placed on facilitating the exchange of information and best practices between Ukrainian NGOs and their international counterparts. This collaboration aims to improve the detection of trafficking networks, enhance victim support systems, and ensure timely interventions to protect those at risk. Both parties stressed the importance of establishing a robust communication framework to share data, coordinate efforts, and provide targeted assistance to Ukrainian women and children who are especially vulnerable due to the ongoing war.
This meeting reflects the ongoing dedication of Ukrainian women’s organizations and international partners to tackle the devastating impact of violence during times of conflict and to ensure a safer future for those most at risk.
